Scientist, Translational Medicine Lab

Immunocore is a late-stage biotechnology company pioneering the development of a novel class of TCR bispecific immunotherapies designed to treat a broad range of diseases, including cancer, infection and autoimmune disease. We are developing a deep pipeline in multiple therapeutic areas, including five clinical stage programs in oncology and infectious disease, advanced pre-clinical programs in autoimmune disease and multiple earlier pre-clinical programs.

It is an exciting time to join Immunocore. Our most advanced oncology therapeutic candidate, tebentafusp, has demonstrated an overall survival benefit in a randomized Phase 3 clinical trial in metastatic uveal melanoma, a cancer that has historically proven to be insensitive to other immunotherapies. The company also recently completed its Initial Public Offering and was listed on the NASDAQ.

The Translational Medicine Lab plays a pivotal role at Immunocore, generating biological data from both clinical trial and pre-clinical experimental samples in order to advance understanding of our platform and ultimately improve patients’ health. We are now looking for an enthusiastic and creative scientist who will work within the team to validate the anti-tumoral response of our therapeutics, and contribute to development of novel immune cell-screening strategies required to better understand the interaction of our therapeutics with the patient immune system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and contribute to development of experiments using primary cancer cells, PBMCs and tumour cell lines, to understand candidate molecule effects on T cell activating/suppressing immune cells
  • Independently design and conduct immunoassays (Luminex, ELISpot, flow cytometry, killing assays) using patient samples and serum samples from our clinical trials
  • Perform experimental procedures, equipment maintenance and keeping experimental and maintenance records in accordance with HTA and /or GCP standards, as relevant.
  • Communicate results internally in lab meetings and seminars and externally in relevant conferences.
  • Keep abreast of technical advances in relevant fields through self-study and attending training sessions and conferences.

Experience
and Knowledge

Essential

  • PhD in biology, cancer biology or immunology or/ BSc, MSc degree in relevant discipline with 3+ years relevant experience.
  • Experience in immune-screening assays, such as ELISA, multiplex assays (eg MSD and Luminex), ELIspots, or multi-colour flow cytometry.
  • Aseptic cell culture techniques, preferably experience in tumour cell lines and/or PBMC isolation and culture.
  • Good understanding of tumour biology and immuno-oncology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Experience with processing and analysing clinical trial samples.
  • Experience in 2D/3D coculture assays
  • Knowledge of immunology and T cell biology
  • Experience in application of GCP / HTA principles.
