The Expert Scientific Writer is responsible for providing support to the Research and Translational teams to ensure scientific communication deliverables are completed to high quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, write, and format original content for publication activities, including primary and review manuscripts and other relevant materials (e.g., congress materials) when necessary.
  • Review and edit original content developed by staff for publication activities, including primary and review manuscripts and other relevant materials (e.g., congress materials) when necessary to ensure highest quality.
  • Work with internal staff to develop content with a coherent and concise narrative that is consistent with the publication strategy and company messaging, scientifically accurate with consistent nomenclature, grammatically accurate, referenced using appropriate sources and consistent with quality standards for author review and scientific peer review.
  • Provide mentorship to internal staff less familiar with scientific writing.
    • Provide training workshops in scientific writing
    • Support development of responses following external peer-review.
    • Provide guidance and support for generating publication quality figures.
    • Support journal pre-submission inquiries when needed
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the research area and clearly communicate scientific concepts in a condensed, audience-appropriate way.
  • Follow internal procedures and workflows and keep up to date with published guidelines (GPP3, ICMJE) for authorship and good publication practices.

Experience and Knowledge:

Essential

  • Experience in Immunology / Biochemistry
  • Proven publication track record within the field of immunology / biochemistry, with experience gained from within academia and/ or industry
  • Worked to interpret and disseminate complex scientific data
  • Worked to build and maintain effective working relationships, ensuring good written and verbal communication skills
  • Worked to a high level with organisational and IT skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and reference management software

Desirable

  • Experience as a scientific writer for a group or organization
  • Experience with manuscript editing
  • Worked to ensure excellent organisational skills when working with colleagues
  • Working knowledge of GraphPad Prism and/or Adobe Illustrator

Education & qualifications:

  • PhD in immunology or biochemistry
