The role:

Assist in maintaining the defence against cyber security threats within a fast-paced environment, by efficiently monitoring new attack vectors and by managing & resolving risks to the business.

The Cyber Security Analyst works within the IT Infrastructure team in a critical defence role. They will take the lead on duties under direction of the appropriate colleagues and will work with the IT Network and Security Engineer and the Director, IT Operations to improve the overall cyber security exposure.

This role would suit someone who is keen to build exposure to the cyber threat landscape and be shown the day-to-day requirements of resolving cyber security threats. Both in house and 3rd party training will be provided to improve knowledge.
The role will include other duties associated with maintaining and enhancing strong defences and controls such as relevant system administration, project work and support activities for the organisation.


  • Execute the day-to-day administration of cybersecurity tools and devices, as well as first and second level support for security information and event management (SIEM) controls.
  • Investigate, evaluate risk, and take action on security alerts, intrusion attempts, breaches, incidents, and false alarms across the IT eco-system.
  • Work with the IT Service Desk and Infrastructure teams to perform wider system maintenance, administration and support as required.
  • Audit process and procedures of internal and external operations to identify risk/non-compliance with defined information security policies, standards and procedures.
  • Perform system security administration and user administration on designated technology platforms including operating systems, applications and network security devices, in accordance with defined policies, standards and procedures, as well as with industry best practices and vendor guidelines.
  • Perform threat and vulnerability assessments, in some cases followed by appropriate remedial action and communication, to ensure systems are protected from known and potential threats and are free from known vulnerabilities. ▪ Work with 3rd parties to organise an annual penetration test, and then address any issues identified.
  • Ensure the annual Cyber Essentials Plus certification is maintained, by working with the business to ensure appropriate risks and security enhancements are addressed.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including risk assessment and management, threat and vulnerability management, incident response, and identity and access management.
  • Technical proficiency with security-related systems and applications.
  • Experience in developing, documenting and maintaining security procedures.
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls and associated network protocols and concepts.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Previous IT service desk or similar experience, or demonstratable IT knowledge.
  • At least two years’ experience in an IT service role.
  • Worked within a Microsoft Windows & Active Directory Environment.
  • Strong time management & organisational skills.
  • Experience supporting and communicating with local and remote workers, including international workers (in English).
  • Knowledge of (using, installing, troubleshooting, managing and monitoring) these systems:
    • Windows 10, Windows Server 2019.
    • Microsoft Office 2016, 2019 and Office 365 administration.
    • Manage Engine or similar cloud-based IT Service Desk systems.
    • Supporting remote stakeholders using remote apps.
    • Network monitoring tools.
    • Solid written and verbal skills. Able to create knowledge content as configuration documentation, user training aids and management updates.

Education and Qualifications:

  • School / College diploma or equivalent
  • Degree in computer science or scientific degree and relevant computing experience in a technical environment.
