Associate Scientist - Protein Science Pipeline

Join a pioneering biotech with a collegial atmosphere and a passion for harnessing every individual’s unique set of skills in our fight against disease.

At Immunocore, we have a vision to transform the way we understand and treat the most challenging medical conditions of our time, including cancer, autoimmune disorders and infection. In January 2022, in the U.S., we launched the world’s first T-cell receptor therapy, built on a novel technology designed to overcome the limitations of our natural immune systems.

Joining us at the most exciting time in our history, you will be part of a team that values trust and innovation, and that cherishes different ways of thinking.

The role

The Research department is now seeking a collaborative and enthusiastic Associate Scientist, with a passion for learning, to join one of the Protein Science Pipeline teams. As a part of the team you will be responsible for the engineering of ImmTAX molecules in the pipeline from the initial identification and characterization of wild type TCRs through to the production of affinity enhanced, potent and specific molecules.

Key responsibilities

  • Running pre-established experimental investigations, with guidance from line manager, a mentor or colleagues
  • Designing and producing DNA constructs for TCR and ImmTAX expression
  • TCR and ImmTAX expression in bacterial and mammalian cells and purification via affinity tags or using ion-exchange and size exclusion chromatography (AKTA system)
  • Analysing TCR and ImmTAX binding affinity, kinetics and specificity using SPR (BIAcore) method
  • Identifying specific TCRs from TCR-phage libraries through series of selection rounds
  • Analysing and reporting experimental results verbally and in writing
  • Maintaining accurate records of all work by following Company procedure

Experience and knowledge

  • Experience operating in a bench-based protein biochemistry or molecular biology environment in industry or academia (such as extended research project, industrial placement or internship)
  • Hands-on experience in the following areas:
    • Protein expression in bacterial and/or mammalian systems
    • Protein purification using column chromatography methods (such as via affinity tags, ion exchange and size exclusion)
    • Molecular cloning of DNA constructs (primer design, PCR and gel electrophoresis)
  • Recording results and information in a concise, accurate and timely way as part of studies or in a work environment
  • Working and contributing actively in a diverse team environment

Education and qualification
