Scientist - Protein Science Research (Cellular Assay Development)

91 Park Drive, Milton Park, Oxfordshire, OX14 4RY, UK

Join a pioneering biotech with a collegial atmosphere and a passion for harnessing every individual’s unique set of skills in our fight against disease. At Immunocore, we have a vision to transform the way we understand and treat the most challenging medical conditions of our time, including cancer, autoimmune disorders and infection.

In January 2022, in the U.S., we launched the world’s first T-cell receptor therapy, built on a novel technology designed to overcome the limitations of our natural immune systems. Joining us at the most exciting time in our history, you will be part of a team that values trust and innovation, and that cherishes different ways of thinking.

The Role:

The PS Research team has an immediate opening for a Scientist working on cellular screening and assay development to test the next generation of our T-cell engaging ImmTAX platform.

The post holder should have proven practical experience in molecular biology, with demonstrable skills in problem-solving, attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated scientist to become part of a high-performing and dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and analyse standard cell biology assays supporting ImmTAX screening and/or preclinical packages, following set protocols and in accordance with set timelines.
  • Design and analyse experiments to answer specific biological questions and contribute to interpretation of the data.
  • Manage/maintain multiple cell lines with appropriate cell culture.
  • Present or contribute to communication of results, e.g. presentations in meetings, contribution to slide decks for meetings, preclinical study report writing.
  • Contribute to the operational running and maintenance of Cell Biology laboratories and equipment.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Immunology, in particular T-cell biology
  • Previous experience working with T cells/lymphocyte assays or immunological assays (For example, cancer cell line and primary cell culture, T cell activation and redirected killing assays)
  • Familiarity with several antibody-detection based assays
  • Learnt about new practices based through observation, self-learning and an enquiring mind
  • Worked and contributed actively in a diverse team environment
  • Presented results and scientific practices with excellent communication
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Experienced in cell-based assay development and assay miniaturisation.
  • Experienced in automation and assay transfer to automated platforms
  • Previous experience in screening biotherapeutics (e.g. antibodies, bi-/multi-specifics).

Education & Qualifications:

  • PhD in related discipline (D)
  • or MSc. in cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, protein engineering, biochemistry, or related discipline (E)
