The Role:

  • Lead a small team of Scientists to develop preclinical in vitro cell-based assays and cell models to evaluate candidate novel ImmTAX molecules.
  • Proactively suggest lines of investigation to improve current workflows by advocating and developing new technologies and methodologies.
  • Review data from range of sources including internal clinical and translational medicine teams and external data sets, proactively seeking feedback and input to bring learnings from clinical trials with the potential to improve preclinical assessment of potency and specificity/safety.
  • Represent the department in multidisciplinary meetings, working in collaboration with representatives from other functions in research and development.
  • Communicate results in the form of presentations in meetings, preclinical study report writing and publications if relevant.
  • Mentor, supervise or line manage junior staff, leading by example to foster company values and culture within the team.
  • Become proficient with standardised cell biology assays supporting ImmTAX screening and/or preclinical studies. If necessary, conduct assays and analyse data in accordance with set timelines.

Responsibilities:

Essential

  • Worked in a bench-based laboratory environment with recognized and established expertise in cell biology and immunology techniques (For example, cancer cell line and primary cell culture, T cell activation and redirected T cell killing assays).
  • Ability to independently analyse and trouble-shoot the technical aspects of these core techniques.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex datasets and propose sound experimental strategies.
  • Record results in a concise and timely way, and in compliance with standards.
  • Excellent communication skills; presented detailed scientific findings or papers to different target audiences.
  • Experience in mentoring and supervision of junior staff, ideally evidenced with a track record of successfully leading a small project team, formal line management experience or working in a matrix environment.
  • Proven publication record.
  • Kept abreast of current scientific literature and concepts.
  • Ability to network between teams and disciplines.

Desirable

  • Experience working with complex in vitro cell models for example organoids, iPSC or organotypic models including cocultures of multiple cell types.
  • Experience with automation, miniaturisation and high through put screening techniques.
  • Familiarity with molecular techniques, for example CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing.
  • Good understanding of preclinical drug discovery processes.
  • Experience with preclinical studies for regulatory submissions.
  • Experience writing formal study reports, for example for regulatory documents.

Qualifications:

  • Essential: PhD in cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, protein engineering, biochemistry, or related discipline or significant industry experience.
  • Desirable: Relevant industrial or post-doctoral academic experience.
