The Role:

Immunocore, a pioneering, clinical-stage T cell receptor biotechnology company is seeking to enhance its scientific depth in pipeline biology with a specific focus in autoimmunity.  As an Associate Director in pipeline biology, this experienced and innovative scientist will lead the planning and development of data packages supporting regulatory submission of novel autoimmune drug candidates.  Working across departments (e.g., research, regulatory affairs, clinical development), this individual will play a critical role in the development and implementation of strategy leading to a strong autoimmune drug portfolio. 

Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the head of autoimmune research, the therapeutic area team, and leaders in pipeline biology, identify the key questions related to safety and efficacy that must be addressed for each autoimmune program on the preclinical portfolio.
  • In concert with the head of regulatory affairs, consult with regulatory experts on questions related to autoimmune drug candidates.
  • Lead a team of scientists (direct reports and through matrix management) to develop or access model systems and cell assays to demonstrate the preclinical activity, efficacy, and safety of drug candidates.
  • Lead the development of preclinical data packages supporting regulatory submissions including preclinical study reports, and help address questions from regulators.
  • Participate in discussions about autoimmune strategy and new drug concepts, and proactively plan data required to support novel autoimmune drug candidates. Serve as a member of autoimmune program teams and act as team leader for select autoimmune programs on the preclinical portfolio. 
  • Share ideas and information with oncology and infectious disease leaders in pipeline biology, working to implement and establish best practices.

Qualifications: 

  • Experience managing, mentoring, and leading scientists to deliver key company objectives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience managing and directing research projects of significant scope.
  • Demonstrated ability to envision, articulate and implement change that significantly advances and/or improves the drug development process.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining collaborations with external experts.
  • Significant experience as an experimental scientist and scientific leader, preferentially in industry, with specific expertise in T cell biology/immunology and an understanding of autoimmunity.
  • Deep understanding of preclinical drug development.

Addition desirable experience:

  • Appreciation for and understanding of regulatory concerns related to biologic drug development.
  • Experience setting strategic direction for a research group or department.
