Main Purpose of Job Role

The Discovery Research Department is now seeking a Scientist / Senior Scientist to join one of the unconventional research teams. As part of the team, you will contribute to the development and improvement of the Immunocore’s T-cell receptor discovery technology encompassing the fields of phage and mammalian display. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and open-minded individual to contribute and grow in an open and team-oriented environment in one of the UK’s leading biotechnology companies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting experiments, observing, interpreting, and responding to results that will support research activities company-wide
  • Maintaining and increasing technical knowledge in relevant fields through self-study, observation, attending relevant conferences and training courses.
  • Generate concise reports on-the-fly as data is generated and adapt assays to return most information-rich data.
  • Assimilate multiparameter data and disseminate data in an efficient way.
  • Able to meaningfully contribute to scientific team discussions, with regards to the interpretation of data.
  • Ensuring that laboratory equipment is operated in accordance with safety and risk guidelines; acting promptly to report any faults or problems to the relevant member of staff.
  • Operating in accordance with the Company’s Health and Safety policies, especially within a laboratory environment.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experienced in display technologies: phage display and mammalian cell display (desirable)
  • Experienced in optimisation of proteins, including affinity maturation, reformatting, and engineering
  • Experienced in expression of proteins and reformatted versions using different systems (for e.g., bacterial and mammalian)
  • Experienced in several purification methods (AEX, CEX, AC and others) - preferable experienced in AKTA systems
  • Proficient in molecular biology techniques: RNA/cDNA/DNA handling, PCR, and in different cloning methods (for e.g. Gibson assembly)
  • Proficient in in-silico molecular design and sequence analysis, using bioinformatics tools
  • Proficient in protein screening and characterisation: ELISA (96- and 384-well formats), competition assays, SPR (e.g. Biacore and Octet systems), Western Blot

Qualifications: 

  • Essential: BSc. Or MSc. in protein engineering, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline
  • Desirable: PhD in related discipline
  • Desirable: Relevant industrial or post-doctoral academic experience
