The Role:

Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of laboratory stocks (such as aliquoting cell culture reagents, consumables etc.) and general upkeep of the laboratory in order to support the Scientists working in both containment level 2 and 3 (CL3) laboratories. They will also liaise with suppliers and help to coordinate the company’s online purchasing system.


  • Manage removal of clinical waste and ensure stock of waste bins and bags.
  • Manage consumable stocks (cell culture media and plasticware), stock room, lobbies, and lab stocks, including standing orders for most commonly used reagents and consumables.
  • Perform DNA extractions for HLA typing.
  • Oversee liquid nitrogen tanks (swaps when needed); scrape -80°C freezers, -150°C freezers and liquid nitrogen tanks as part of the HTA preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Clean and maintain water baths and incubators, fill up water containers in laboratories.
  • Organise equipment servicing/assist CL3 manager with task (e.g., pipettes, hoods, incubators).
  • Aliquot shared reagents, manage 70% ethanol for usage in designated labs, liaise with other technicians/Facilities for disposal of empty bottles.
  • Assist scientists with their cell culture and characterisation, including freezing down cell stocks.
  • Assist scientists when required for cell-based assays.
  • Assist scientists in managing/maintaining stocks of plasmid DNA.
  • Update & maintain freezer maps.
  • Perform lab related audits, e.g., audit of human tissue, viruses, etc.
  • Undergo additional training to support lab/building, e.g., fire warden, COSHH, first aid.
  • Assist CL3 manager and scientists in biyearly laboratory shutdown and maintenance.
  • Organisation of shipments (ingoing or outgoing) when needed.



  • Minimum of A Level in Biology or equivalent.
  • Worked within a laboratory environment.
  • Shown a commitment to ensuring laboratory equipment is maintained and operated in a safe manner.
  • Shown a desire to provide material and practical support to scientists.
  • Shown flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques and adopt new practices to support the company as it expands.
  • Actively contributed to a diverse team environment.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook.
  • Proven ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain accurate records.
  • Shown a strong interest in progressing own knowledge in biological sciences.


  • Worked within a similar role in Industry, Healthcare, or an Academic setting.
  • Previous laboratory experience within protein, microbiology, or cell biological sciences.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique.
