The Role:

With the significant expansion of our clinical development portfolio, we are now looking for a Senior Bioinformatician to join our innovative and multi-disciplined Translational Medicine team. The successful candidate will conduct the analysis of next generation sequencing data to provide impactful support to both our clinical trial programs and new target discovery projects.  This role will feedback powerful insights to the team through the development of bespoke data visualisation and analytical tools.   Further to this there is scope to influence the efficiency of our technology platform through the application of cutting-edge machine learning techniques.  The Senior Bioinformatician will be part of a close-knit team of Bioinformaticians and will have the potential to make a huge impact across the company.

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis of transcriptomic and genomic sequencing data from our clinical trials.
  • Foster a strong partnership with translational and disease biology scientists to interpret the data and discover new insightful findings.
  • Compliment and develop our scientific hypotheses through the mining of public data and the design and analysis of our own in-house experiments.
  • Develop custom-made tools and analytics to assist interpretation and data visualisation.
  • Develop machine learning based solutions to discover impactful new insights from a huge wealth of experimental data.

Other Responsibilities

  • Provide ad hoc bioinformatics support across Research departments and Translational Medicine.
  • Become involved in collaborative projects with external academic institutions.

Qualifications: 

Essential

  • Will be proficient in R/BioConductor, Linux OS and shell scripting bash. Proven programming ability, preferably competent in Python.
  • Understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, immunology or related discipline..
  • Significant experience of independent research in academic or industrial setting, or transferable skills gained from professional experience.
  • Proposed and driven changes in working practices that have improved efficiency, supported teams through adoption and change.
  • Presented detailed scientific findings and papers to internal and external audiences.
  • Recorded results in a concise and timely way, and in compliance with agreed standards.
  • Experience of building and running next generation sequencing (NGS) analytical pipelines.
  • Possess an understanding of machine learning techniques.

Desirable

  • Led a project small team, formally or informally, including project management.
  • Mentored and coached less experienced colleagues in scientific practices and theory..
  • May have knowledge of applied statistics or related field.
  • Broad exposure to the fields of oncology, autoimmune or infectious diseases.
  • Previous experience of analysing large-scale public datasets, such as TCGA.
  • Experience in developing R Shiny apps.

Education:

  • PhD or master’s degree plus relevant additional experience.
  • Several years of relevant experience working in an industrial or academic setting.
